NORTH PORT — Although the Sarasota County School Board won’t start really digging into its budget for the 2013-2014 school year until January, members already are thinking about where they can make cuts to an already trim budget.

The Sarasota County School District has an unassigned fund balance of more than $52 million, or almost 15 percent of its budget. District expenditures for the 2010-11 fiscal year total more than $370 million. While this means the district has been a good steward of money, that number could change.
