Sarasota County reinvests recouped $24 million gained in lawsuit

SARASOTA COUNTY — In the wake of the $24 million settlement reached between Sarasota County and investment adviser Wells Fargo and Company, Clerk of the Circuit Court Karen Rushing, who helped lead the lawsuit, said those monies will return to funds sustained by county departments invested on behalf of county taxpayers.
“All of that money is pooled, it’s not any one specific security,” she said, “and so those dollars that came back in got reappropriated back to the funds that contributed to the book entries when (the) 2008 (economic collapse) occurred.”
