Oren L. Revels, 73, lifelong resident of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, with his family by his side.

Oren was born Nov. 29, 1939 in Wauchula, Fla.

He served our country in the U.S. Army. Oren was a member of the Eagles and the AmVets. He spent most of his working life as a Heavy Equipment Operator/Mechanic in the construction industry. Over the years, he also worked for Singletary Concrete/Cemex in Sebring and Bradenton, Fla., and as a Ranch hand. Oren was one of the first EMS responders in Arcadia and oversaw the department in DeSoto County. He was an avid fisherman, often competing in Bass tournaments, well into his older days, when he switched to shark fishing. He enjoyed taking his children on these excursions and even as they grew into their 30s, he still insisted on baiting their hooks. Oren was a very loving father, brother, grandpa, and friend to many; he will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his son, Oren (Carol) Revels Jr., of Okeechobee, Fla.; daughters, Karen Keene, of Lake Buffum, Fla., Sharon Waldron, and Kathy Revels, both of Arcadia, Tammy Hendrickson, of LaBelle, Fla.; sisters, Margaret (Ken) Crider, of Georgia, Colleen Donaldson, of Port Charlotte, Fla., Faye Eller, of South Carolina; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Oren was preceded in death by his father, Merle Revels; parents, Ellis C. and Doris L. Sullivan; brother, Jimmie Sullivan; and son, Monte Revels.

The family will accept friends from 11 p.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Ponger Kays Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia, followed by a 12 p.m. service. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.pongerkaysgrady.com.

Arrangements are by Ponger Kays Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia.
