Small-town memories and small-town pride
By LUKE WILSON
The other day I read a quote that hit home by way of my heart. I can’t recall exactly how it went, but it said something about the importance of living someplace where you can still hear a screen door slam. Boy, did that ever bring back memories.
We had screen doors on our homes and on our porches to keep the flies and skeeters out, and it was not unusual to hear one slam every day, followed by the hollered threat of a whipping by one of our parents. This made me think of other aspects of small-town country living that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
