Cowboy photographer Jimmy Peters hugs his sister, Shirley Taylor, at the opening of the cowboy art show at the Martin Art Gallery. Peters' photos of cowboys in action capture the day-to-day tasks they perform. Works by noted filmmaker VIctor Milt, who directed the film, "Cracker: The Last Cowboys of Florida," are also on display at 207 East Magnolia Street. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Kay Wise takes a close look at the quilt handmade by the group of women who meet once a month at the County Extension Office. The quilt depicts many historic sites in DeSoto County, including the rodeo, the courthouse and the citrus industry. The quilt is being raffled Saturday by DeSoto Arts and Humanities Council at Pioneer Day, so be sure to get your ticket soon.
